SUMMARY OF ACRIMONY MOVIE
The film opens with Melinda attending a court-ordered anger management class, where she recounts the events that led to her current state of anger and frustration. The story then flashes back to the early days of Melinda and Robert’s relationship, where Melinda is shown supporting Robert financially as he works on a battery invention that he believes will make them both rich.
As the years go by, Robert’s obsession with the invention grows, and Melinda’s resentment towards him also increases. She is forced to sell her family home and her mother’s inheritance to finance Robert’s project, and feels neglected and unappreciated.
After years of financial struggle and fighting, Melinda finally reaches her breaking point and divorces Robert. She receives a settlement from the divorce, but remains bitter and resentful towards Robert, convinced that he has cheated her out of the success that the invention ultimately brings.
The story jumps forward In time to show Melinda’s downward spiral into obsession and revenge, as she becomes convinced that Robert has stolen her invention and succeeded in making a fortune from it. She hires a private investigator to gather evidence, and even goes so far as to break into Robert’s house to try to find proof of his wrongdoing.
As the film nears its conclusion, a dramatic twist is revealed that changes everything we thought we knew about Melinda and Robert’s relationship. We discover that Melinda’s perspective of events was not entirely accurate, and that her obsession and anger had led her down a dangerous path.
In the end, Melinda is left to pick up the pieces of her life and try to move forward, realizing too late the harm that her anger and bitterness had caused. The film ends with Melinda attending another anger management class, reflecting on the lessons she has learned and the mistakes she has made.
